The Charity Fund Raiser

On October 15th 2006, Michael Bland returned to the fight ring for a demonstration bout with European Thai boxing champion Mati Parks.
The event raised funds for the Parkinson’s Disease Society and demonstrated that, with the right energy management and attitude to life, a man with a bus pass and Parkinson’s can still compete at this most demanding of sports.
Michael trains at the Cobra Gym.
‘The GKFO kickboxing Black Belt is one of the most physically and technically demanding sporting accomplishments that it is possible to achieve.
Very few physically hard and fit young people reach this level and I would not previously have thought it possible for a 58 year-old man with Parkinson’s to attain such high grading. That was before I met Michael Bland. His dedication, skill and prodigious energy levels are an inspiration to all, and his Black Belt a demonstration that with the right mind-set and dedication nothing is impossible.’
